So Renée's and my Modcloth order from like five years ago finally got here! I knew we were going to have to pay import costs because that's what happens when you get a suspiciously large package from outside of the EU, but so far every time that's happened, both to me and other people (even for pretty valuable packages), the costs have been €27. (lol though, remember that time when they had just started charging for non-EU packages and not actually told anybody about it and I had to pay €27 to receive a pair of shoes that hadn't even cost me €20? Yeaaaah.)

For this package? I gotta shell out 55 FUCKING EUROS WTF. I'll be getting half of that back from Renée thank GOD, but seriously? Seriously? That's like half the value of the ENTIRE ORDER in taxes, and it was a big order. This shit ain't right and it ain't proper.

Conclusion: FUCK YOU DUTCH POSTAL SYSTEM. FUCK YOU HARD.

Hiii guys! I started writing this post yesterday and it had a grumpy intro about a package for me being delivered to the neighbours and them never being home when they should be and me wanting my damn clothes already, but this situation has been resolved so I am in a much better mood today!

Anyway, the reason this post took ages is because I made y'all a Viktor & Rolf picspam! It's pretty huge and idk if it actually makes any sense, but since it's full of stuff I like and I find it hard not to get behind a post full of stuff I like, I'm posting it anyway.

A trinity of fierce bitches welcomes you in! )

THIS PICSPAM IS GQMF APPROVED JSYK

My brother's graduation was really nice \o/ he was the first person called to the stage by the teachers even, because he did best in some biology competition he never even told us about :') It is clear: my baby brother wins at life.

Also I had never been to his school before and HOLY SHIT, IT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ART DECO SCHOOL BUILDING I HAVE EVER SEEN. I am so jealous. From what I've heard I'm glad I didn't actually go there because apparently it's not particularly full of likeable people, but my own school's building was a hideous 70s (50s apparently, I stand corrected!) monstrosity and just, holy crap, I am so jealous! It's not like I'll ever have reason to be in that building again, so I decided to bust out my camera and take some pictures. I'm glad I did because I just trolled google and flickr to find more pictures of the building and hey guess what: there are like three of them, and they suck.

So yes, look at my baby brother's old school because it is gorge:

Moar here! )

Okay, thus ends my picspam of envy.

Also yesterday evening I watched part of a BRILLIANT BBC documentary series about the very beginning of film history, called The Last Machine and presented by Terry Gilliam (hell yes!) It was AMAZING - so, so thorough and interesting and really fun to watch! My dad taped it when it aired in the 90s, but accidentally recorded something else over nearly half of the episodes. D: I've been googling for hours because I really want to see the rest of it, but I can't find a single episode available for download ANYWHERE, nor has the series ever been officially released. THIS IS RLY UPSETTING >:( Damn you, BBC. I don't know if anyone with more Google chops than myself can find it, but if you do I will be grateful to you for fucking ever. I am desperate D:

Holy shit, you guys, I have actually not posted for an ENTIRE MONTH. That's pretty shocking! I'm still working on putting together my lady art picspam post and having it be less than five kabillion pictures, but someday it will be posted, I promise. Also coming hopefully soon: pictures of my new room! I kind of like it a lot, but every time I try to take pictures, all of the clouds in the world gather above the house as if on cue so I can't take a single decent photo. Fie! It'll happen though, hopefully also soon.

In the meantime, have a music video I like! It is by a Swedish band called MOVITS! who play swing music and rap over it, in Swedish. I promise you that even if you already think this sounds awesome, it is actually way more awesome than you think. Also the video is A+! Essentially... I want to marry this song and live in this video.

Aaaand secondly I hope you are all familiar with the cutest blog in world history, entitled My Milk Toof, but just in case you are not... well, there's the link. It is a photo blog about the adventures of two little milk teeth called Ickle and Lardee, who take care of plants and are afraid to take baths and oh my god it is so adorable I cannot even explain it to you. Have some pictures from it instead:

FOR REAL HOW ADORABLE IS THIS SDLKGDSJSDGH
And that's not even including the stories I took these pictures from. I am DYING of cuteness.

Aaaand finally, [info]jahrhundert just sent me an (awesome) essay she wrote, in which she actually acknowledged me for all the useless fangirl squeeing I have been doing about Asta Nielsen! Who knew my online nerdiness would one day lead to my being acknowledged in an essay (if only because [info]jahrhundert is sweet enough to acknowledge me for saying useless things ♥)! Soooo yes, this just made my day! \o/

Hokay back to studying I go! Blarg exams D:

Holy crap my life kind of rocks?!

+ I PASSED MY FUCKING ROMAN LAW EXAM SO HARD, HOLY SHIT. They posted the answer sheet online today and I only got 4/30 multiple choice questions wrong, and the open question right as well. Holy craaaap.

+ I bought pretty dresses on Asos!

Also I only have to pay half of the shipping costs because I'm ordering together with Renée \o/ Having a housemate who digs Asos as much as I do is KIND OF BRILLIANT.

I also wanted to buy this dress on clearance:

But then someone snatched the last one up right before I wanted to put it in my basket! AND NOW SOMEONE RETURNED ONE SO I CAN STILL BUY IT, but I'm not sure I should? Is it nice enough, internet?

+ Renée and I are working on making our living room prettier, which is fun. Our first poster arrived today:

Cutest ever? IT MIGHT BE.

+ I just found out that there's going to be a showing of a silent Lubitsch film with Pola Negri in my hometown on Monday! I AM SO THERE, holy crap.

I think I was going to scream more, but I'm off to a lecture type thing about Polanski in a minute so this will be all for now. But um yes, basically good times are upon me it seems!

Ahh these last few days have been good!

On Saturday I went shopping for boring useful things and then to the Erwin Olaf exhibit at the local photo museum, both with a friend who moved to Australia and is here for the holidays. It was the last day of the exhibition and I'd almost forgotten it was on and that I'd wanted to see it until my friend was all RAHAKLGSGH YOU HAVE TO SEE IT IT IS GOOD and I was all OMG I FORGOT so then we went together. Conclusion: it was good!

When I get back from Stockholm I'm buying a poster with this photo on it:

DEAR GOD I WANT TO BE THIS GIRL OKAY PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN ASAP

Then yesterday I went to see my bb Asta's Hamlet which was SO AWESOME, aah. The live music was really good and the film was really good and my bb Asta was REALLY GOOD and also did I mention that the place where we saw the film looked like this:

(Movie) Theater Tuschinski

Tuschinksi Theater, Amsterdam - ceiling & proscenium

Can you tell this is my favourite cinema? We actually saw the film in the big auditorium ohhh it was great.

AND finally, today I ran a thousand million five hundred last minute oh-god-need-to-do-this-before-Stockholm errands and then went to Leiden to meet [info]a_suitcase who is awesome and fun and also MY NEW HOUSEMATE?! I have a room in Leiden guys hell yes!

Fortunately for me I am not done being busy yet:
# I leave for Stockholm tomorrow, where my boyfriend and I will be going "OH THIS IS COLD BUT KIND OF AWESOME" until Thursday.
# Thursday I am probably going shopping with some classmates, fresh off the airplane back from Stockholm. Why I do this to myself I do not know.
# Friday I leave for some backwoods place in NL for dispute weekend.
# Saturday I leave the weekend for a couple of hours to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with him in Amsterdam.
# Sunday the weekend ends and I go to Amsterdam with the boyfriend yet again, to reunite with my beloved Asta Nielsen festival.
# Monday evening I get on the ferry and head Londonwards with the English study association (including some classmates/friends of mine \o/)
# Friday I come back I think? And then Saturday I leave to spend the weekend in some weird bungalow park type place somewhere in NL with friends.

AND THEN finally January is done and so are my wild adventures of not being home. Upon which I will promptly not be home again because I will be MOVING TO LEIDEN!

Um. That is, if I'm still alive by then. WISH ME LUCK YOU GUYS because I don't know how I'm going to keep my energy up and my bank account not empty until February D:

Sooo yes. I will be mostly-absent from here until February I guess. That seems weirdly long!

Dear baby brother:

BITCH WHY YOU GOTTA GET ME HOOKED ON TRUE BLOOD?

I mean it's not like I have a metric ton of work to do rn or anything. AGH.

Also I am seeing real creepy stalker potential in the way vampires in the series can track people who have drunk their (the vampires') blood? Like, all you have to do is mix some of your blood into your girlfriend's drink once and voila, stalkervision switched on! That's kinda creepy. Luckily and by great coincidence, Love Interest Vampire is just not that kinda guy! And I still want to watch this despite rolling my eyes at that and not even being that into vampires. Like, at all. Idek you guys. Whyyyyyyy

Also guess what else I got for my birthday!

HELL YES

It's my birthday \o/ Kinda awesome!

I'm 21 now though, which is a little unnerving.

I was going to say that I don't know what I'm getting as I'm not getting my presents until after dinner, but that would be a lie - I did already get presents from my entire family minus my parents yesterday AND I know about these three things I'm getting from my parents:

I know there is more though, I just don't know what!

Er yes, I think this post ran out of steam before it even started. Possibly this is due to the fact that I slept really badly last night and am mostly occupied with grooving out to Thriller and Smooth Criminal which I have on repeat right now. I should probably continue grooving out and stop writing now because clearly the two do not go together. LEAST INSPIRED POST EVER.

But yes, I'm 21? Idk you guys!

Oh my god you guys, Bettie Page died :( RIP, you were an awesome lady.

Stupid story: I keep not posting because I had planned my next post to be more silent film uploads, only then I realised that two of them had title cards in German and that I would have to subtitle them, and I keep not having time to so I keep putting it off. Tragic, tragic! One day there will be more weird silents here, promise.

But today is not that day! Today is the day where I procrastinate and pretend I don't have a million end-of-semester things to do ('tis the season, bitches) and instead make a self-indulgent post about what I got for Sinterklaas last week and also maybe things I want for my birthday, because once I start posting pictures of pretty shit I can never seem to stop - NO, better idea, I'm going to post some random songs also. Hooray!

So, first, have some music I have decided to upload, with no real overarching theme other than "I listen to this and I like it." Download it people, I want you all hooked on the stuff I like!

# Ute Lemper - It's All A Swindle - this song is from a CD on which Ute Lemper sings a million old Berlin cabaret songs, translated to English, and they are really fucking awesome. No, seriously.
# Baldwin and the Whiffles (no, really) - Sh-Boom - I have no idea who did the original version of this song tbh, I just downloaded the Cry-Baby soundtrack and this one is on there and I love it.
# The Magnetic Fields - I Don't Really Love You Anymore - I love the Magnetic Fields because their love songs are really fucking weird? Also because the lead singer gets my nomination for Sexiest Voice Of This Year And Possibly Ever.
# Rita Pavone - Il Geghegé - Rita Pavone is an Italian pop singer from the 60s who is insanely amazing. She's this tiny little cute-looking girl with a HUGE FUCKING VOICE and her music is so funnnn. Also this song is totally danceable, as demonstrated by her in this awesome video.
# The Magnetic Fields - I Thought You Were My Boyfriend - This song is for real the most groovy and danceable thing in the WORLD. Idk I love it, there was a week or so this year where I refused to listen to anything but this song. Perhaps this one is also a better demonstration of how the singer has a hella sexy voice.
# Ute Lemper - When the Special Girlfriend - Another one from the cabaret album! This gay song of gay was first sung by Marlene Dietrich, but I think probably everyone has heard that, so have Ute Lemper's English version!
# The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Ich Erinnere Mich An Die Weimarer Republik - I've posted this song before but I am POSTING IT AGAIN. Because it is that good and also that groovy. It also references Cabaret and the Threepenny Opera so you are obliged to love it basically.
# The Honey Sisters - Cry Baby - Also from the Cry-Baby soundtrack! I love this song forever and then some.
# Marlene Dietrich - Jonny - I've posted this one before as well, but I feel that for a track of Marlene Dietrich singing about sex it did not get nearly enough attention, so download it you guise! It's in German, but it's basically a) a good song and b) Marlene Dietrich singing "dude you are not having enough sex with me and I wish you would".
# Ute Lemper - Take It Off Petronella! - Moar cabaret music: Ute Lemper sings about an actress who pretends to be srs business but is only really famous because she takes all her clothes off except for like a fur coat and jewelry. Includes an impression of her, with a lolzy Russian accent. Pretty great!
# Weintraubs Syncopators - Nimm Dich In Acht Vor Blonden Frauen - This one's from a CD of actual Weimar Berlin cabaret recordings from, you know, actual Weimar Berlin. No lyrics but it's a really cute song!
# Ute Lemper - Chuck Out the Men! - Ute Lemper and her amazing accent singing a funny Weimar cabaret song about feminism UH YES PLEASE. Also I just like the way she says "chuck".
# Rita Pavone - Sul Cucuzzolo - This song is so funnnn. It starts off with some weird men's choir being srs or whatever, and then it turns into the most stereotypical 60s pop song ever. Fun fun fun! Every time I play it my father comes into my room to complain that it is tacky, but I love Rita Pavone and also this song, in a totally non-ironic way.
# Ute Lemper - The Lavender Song - I know there are a million Ute Lemper songs in here but whatever, this CD is awesome. This one is about gay rights! Oh Weimar Germany ilu forever.
# Rita Pavone - Lui - I think I am running out of things to say about Rita Pavone? She is fun and you should listen to her ok!
# Ute Lemper - Maskulinum/Femininum - Moar cabaret: drag king and drag queen (or transsexual couple, I'm not sure!) find love with each other and have babies. Awesome? I BELIEVE SO.
# Ute Lemper - A Little Attila - Another Weimar cabaret song, about a woman lamenting that there aren't any fugly yet mighty conquerors left for her to swoon over. I... yeah. It's a fun song though, if you manage to not think LOL HITLER all through it.

Ok, that's it for songs!

Also I got all this awesome stuff last week: )

Anyway yes, I think this entry is about long enough now. Also I have to go get ready to go to Leiden and vote a bunch of new people in/out of our dispute, which is weird and scary because I was on the other side of this procedure only last year. Wack shit!

SO DO YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY SUCKS?

I'LL TELL YOU WHAT: CRIMINOLOGY.

Basically I just finished my stupid essay, which I had to write due to being absent from class a shocking total of once. Only I've handed it in an hour late (the deadline was June 11, it is now June 12 by one hour) and I have been.. not so good with handing things in on time for Criminology because I was so ready for that class to be over, so I'm not sure my prof will still accept it. I hope she does because I'm pretty sure I broke some kind of fast typing record while writing that thing and it still made sense, and it is two pages longer than the minimum requirement so, er. And also because I don't want to fail the class.

ANYWAY I do not feel like studying for my exam which is in twelve hours, and I am frustrated by my stupid paper and in need of some srs cheering up, so have a picspam of er, people and places and clothes and things, with no particular theme other than 'I consider this awesome' and in no particular order. I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING OR MY HEAD WILL EXPLODE OKAY

AND BY 'SOMETHING' I DO NOT MEAN STUDY

Idk why I insist on shooting myself in the foot like this, but have some pretties! And by some I mean like 70. Srsly, enter with caution! )

Ok, back to hating the world and preparing for my imminent death-by-Criminology-exam.
