See that right there? That is why I love summer. Well also the warm weather and the sunlight and the holidays and all, but mostly I really really really love summer fruit. NOM NOM NOM

So anyway, I was initially going to write an enormous long distraught post about how I must be an insane person because I had somehow managed to completly vanish my only hairbrush, in a room that's not even 20 square meters nor particularly full of storage units, but then it turned out that I was not insane after all and one of my housemates had snuck into my room when I was out and borrowed it. Once more I turn out to be less weird than I thought! (Seriously though, I am chaotic and disorganised in every other way imaginable, but I NEVER lose stuff. I was distraught. IT TOTALLY MERITED A POST OKAY.)

I concede, though, that there is also stuff going on that might be slightly more interesting than a lost hairbrush: my brother gets his final exam results tomorrow! I'm pretty convinced that he's passed and will thus be graduating high school in two weeks (fna'sdlg augh how is my baby brother suddenly this oooold!), but it's still one of those nervous moments that has the entire family on edge, because they're his final exam results and HE IS ALL GROWED UP. :'( The good news, though, is that he'll be going to Leiden for his university studies just like me, so I will be able to occasionally knock on his door and sternly inquire if he's had anything to eat besides pizza in the past month.

Also, I uploaded a bunch of music for [info]jahrhundert and I figured some of you guys might be interested too! They're all songs by Kurt Weill, many of which I may have posted before at some point, but since I love them an unreasonable amount and Kurt Weill is amazing and also my hero, I am posting them again anyway and you will just have to deal. They are all sung by Lotte Lenya because she is the only one who gets to sing Kurt Weill songs in my opinion. Also I want to be her when I grow up, and I'm only okay with not marrying her because a) she is dead and b) she and Kurt Weill were married and it was adorable and they are my historical OTP forever.

LOOK AT THESE AWESOME BITCHES, YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO BE THEM.

So yes, the songs:

Threepenny Opera
Die Moritat von Mackie Messer
Barbara-Song
Seeräuber-Jenny

Happy End
Introduction (Hosiannah)
Bilbao-Song
Matrosen-Tango
Der Song von Mandelay
Das Lied von der harten Nuss
Die Ballade von der Höllenlili

I hope some of you will take (and hopefully also like) them so I can feel like I am doing right by my OTP :') And also seriously, if you do not like Lotte Lenya I may have to stop considering you a person. BEST LADY EVER.

Hokay, back to my cherries and civil law summaries I go!

Oh my god you guys, Bettie Page died :( RIP, you were an awesome lady.

Stupid story: I keep not posting because I had planned my next post to be more silent film uploads, only then I realised that two of them had title cards in German and that I would have to subtitle them, and I keep not having time to so I keep putting it off. Tragic, tragic! One day there will be more weird silents here, promise.

But today is not that day! Today is the day where I procrastinate and pretend I don't have a million end-of-semester things to do ('tis the season, bitches) and instead make a self-indulgent post about what I got for Sinterklaas last week and also maybe things I want for my birthday, because once I start posting pictures of pretty shit I can never seem to stop - NO, better idea, I'm going to post some random songs also. Hooray!

So, first, have some music I have decided to upload, with no real overarching theme other than "I listen to this and I like it." Download it people, I want you all hooked on the stuff I like!

# Ute Lemper - It's All A Swindle - this song is from a CD on which Ute Lemper sings a million old Berlin cabaret songs, translated to English, and they are really fucking awesome. No, seriously.
# Baldwin and the Whiffles (no, really) - Sh-Boom - I have no idea who did the original version of this song tbh, I just downloaded the Cry-Baby soundtrack and this one is on there and I love it.
# The Magnetic Fields - I Don't Really Love You Anymore - I love the Magnetic Fields because their love songs are really fucking weird? Also because the lead singer gets my nomination for Sexiest Voice Of This Year And Possibly Ever.
# Rita Pavone - Il Geghegé - Rita Pavone is an Italian pop singer from the 60s who is insanely amazing. She's this tiny little cute-looking girl with a HUGE FUCKING VOICE and her music is so funnnn. Also this song is totally danceable, as demonstrated by her in this awesome video.
# The Magnetic Fields - I Thought You Were My Boyfriend - This song is for real the most groovy and danceable thing in the WORLD. Idk I love it, there was a week or so this year where I refused to listen to anything but this song. Perhaps this one is also a better demonstration of how the singer has a hella sexy voice.
# Ute Lemper - When the Special Girlfriend - Another one from the cabaret album! This gay song of gay was first sung by Marlene Dietrich, but I think probably everyone has heard that, so have Ute Lemper's English version!
# The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Ich Erinnere Mich An Die Weimarer Republik - I've posted this song before but I am POSTING IT AGAIN. Because it is that good and also that groovy. It also references Cabaret and the Threepenny Opera so you are obliged to love it basically.
# The Honey Sisters - Cry Baby - Also from the Cry-Baby soundtrack! I love this song forever and then some.
# Marlene Dietrich - Jonny - I've posted this one before as well, but I feel that for a track of Marlene Dietrich singing about sex it did not get nearly enough attention, so download it you guise! It's in German, but it's basically a) a good song and b) Marlene Dietrich singing "dude you are not having enough sex with me and I wish you would".
# Ute Lemper - Take It Off Petronella! - Moar cabaret music: Ute Lemper sings about an actress who pretends to be srs business but is only really famous because she takes all her clothes off except for like a fur coat and jewelry. Includes an impression of her, with a lolzy Russian accent. Pretty great!
# Weintraubs Syncopators - Nimm Dich In Acht Vor Blonden Frauen - This one's from a CD of actual Weimar Berlin cabaret recordings from, you know, actual Weimar Berlin. No lyrics but it's a really cute song!
# Ute Lemper - Chuck Out the Men! - Ute Lemper and her amazing accent singing a funny Weimar cabaret song about feminism UH YES PLEASE. Also I just like the way she says "chuck".
# Rita Pavone - Sul Cucuzzolo - This song is so funnnn. It starts off with some weird men's choir being srs or whatever, and then it turns into the most stereotypical 60s pop song ever. Fun fun fun! Every time I play it my father comes into my room to complain that it is tacky, but I love Rita Pavone and also this song, in a totally non-ironic way.
# Ute Lemper - The Lavender Song - I know there are a million Ute Lemper songs in here but whatever, this CD is awesome. This one is about gay rights! Oh Weimar Germany ilu forever.
# Rita Pavone - Lui - I think I am running out of things to say about Rita Pavone? She is fun and you should listen to her ok!
# Ute Lemper - Maskulinum/Femininum - Moar cabaret: drag king and drag queen (or transsexual couple, I'm not sure!) find love with each other and have babies. Awesome? I BELIEVE SO.
# Ute Lemper - A Little Attila - Another Weimar cabaret song, about a woman lamenting that there aren't any fugly yet mighty conquerors left for her to swoon over. I... yeah. It's a fun song though, if you manage to not think LOL HITLER all through it.

Ok, that's it for songs!

Also I got all this awesome stuff last week: )

Anyway yes, I think this entry is about long enough now. Also I have to go get ready to go to Leiden and vote a bunch of new people in/out of our dispute, which is weird and scary because I was on the other side of this procedure only last year. Wack shit!

Right. Last time I am posting this, promise! It now has a youtube video!

I am pretty sure LJ hates me! Every time I want to post an entry something goes wrong >:( I wrote this on Thursday, but then the video I tried to embed not only didn't appear but also somehow made half of the entry text vanish. Hooray for post previews I guess? I saved the entry and figured I'd just post it later, because obviously the embed would miraculously work in a few days. It was not so! It is now a youtube video instead of a photobucket one, and finally embedding properly. Thus my entry was saved!

Original entry:

Omg, you guys, my computer virus has been vanquished. My faith in antivirus systems has been restored. All is right with the world again! \o/

Er, except for the part where I fell asleep in class three times today and then twice more on public transport on my way home. I didn't think my sleeping problems could escalate even further but apparently now they have! I also had a monster cold but that disappeared fairly quickly, so at least my lack of sleep hasn't had its vile way with my immune system yet.

Anyway, have a short film that made me lol and also a song, so I can conveniently distract you from the fact that I shouldn't ever be allowed near a keyboard when deprived of sleep because the resulting post will be an affront to everyone who knows what coherence is. And probably also everyone who doesn't.

And:
# Marlene Dietrich - Jonny
I am currently addicted to this song. I got it from one of the 4 CDs included with a huge book on cabaret in Berlin pre-WWII, so that should about illustrate the level of awesome we are dealing with here. Basically, what this song is about is that Marlene Dietrich wants to have sex with Jonny all day every day, but for some reason sex is only possible on his birthday. Don't even ask me why, since I have always been fairly convinced that Marlene Dietrich was above such trifling human things as rules and could pretty much have had sex with the pope if she'd wanted to. Probably this Jonny is just insane. Anyway, even though her singing is not... entirely up to scratch in this, you should 1) not care, because it's still Marlene Dietrich and 2) download this, because it's an A+ song!

Erm, I don't really know why this mutated into a giant incoherent monster entry, really I only wanted to announce that I am once again happily surfing the internets without some bastard virus cramping my style. Having done so I think I will go to sleep and hopefully also actually reach my bed before doing so. STUPID BODY.

Soo, there's this band I love called The World/Inferno Friendship Society, whom I love because a) I dig their music (lol yes rly), b) they wear awesome suits, and c), uh, they have written an entire album about Peter Lorre. No, for real.

And now, apparently, they have taken that album and constructed a multi-media theatre performance-slash-punkrock opera around it, with texts inspired by Bertolt Brecht.

And they are totally performing over here in less than a month.

Sooo basically? THIS IS ME EXPLODING.

And because if I'm going to explode I like to at least do it in a vaguely useful way, have some of their music!

# Peter Lorre Overture - the first song on the album, as you might've guessed. First part of the song is orchestral, in the second part the World/Inferno Friendship Society wonders where Peter Lorre's money went.
# Ich Erinnere Mich An Die Weimarer Republik - I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. It is insanely groovy and danceable and it references the Threepenny Opera! And "Cabaret"! If you only download one song, it should be this one.
# "M" is for Morphine - This one starts out kind of.. ominous? but is actually also quite groovy.
# Addicted to Bad Ideas - The title track! Which, uh, I also like. Idk what to say about this one besides that! Clearly I would make a great PR person.
# Heart Attack '64 - lol this one is so hokey yet SO CUTE! It is so cute that when they sing a line like "but the dope and the girls and the wine, oh hell they were so fine," I'm still going "AAAWW PETER SO CUTE!!!"

So, yes. I think you should download these and hopefully also dig them!

Aaaand that's enough of my music and Peter Lorre-induced brand of crazy for today, I think. Back to studying for my civil law re-exam next Monday, hell yes!

A friend of mine is going to teach me computer programming teaching me computer programming as we speak! Awesome. I have no doubt that I will have made my entire computer malfunction by this time tomorrow, haha.

Also because I am really into the Brecht/Weill/Lenya just now (have you noticed?), have a bunch of songs! They are in German, so I guess a lot of you won't understand the lyrics (which is a shame because they are awesome!), but since the music is great too I figured I'd just share anyway!

1. Der Song von Mandelay
2. Die Ballade von der Höllenlili
3. Barbara-Song
4. Bilbao-Song
5. Hosiannah

Go download them! I promise they are good. Or, um, at least that I think they are.

Also the German girl I hung out with a lot in Barcelona last year (almost exactly a year ago, whyyyyyyy!) is getting married! It's so weird! I'm actually invited which I think is very sweet. I can't make it though, as it is in a week and a half and I am completely broke. Anyway, this is the first instance of People I Know Who Are Roughly My Age Getting Married, and as such I am more than a little bewildered. WHY ARE PEOPLE I KNOW WHO ARE ROUGHLY MY AGE GETTING MARRIED? It is so weird. So weird!

And lastly, I watched This Film is Not Yet Rated yesterday. It was so disturbing! Now I'll admit that I didn't know much about the American film rating system to begin with, but.. that is some messed up stuff. :/

So, um. Back to my stupid essays I go!
