<s>FOR ANYONE WHO HAS MY EMAIL ADDRESS:

DO NOT SEND ME STUFF RIGHT NOW. I've been hacked and shit is going down, and I don't want anyone compromised.

thank you for your time <3</s>

ETA: looks like i have my email address back, though i'm not convinced of my victory yet. i'll believe it if everything is still fine in a few days. i'd hold off on sending me anything that's actually important if i were you, but at least i can be reached again.

to make this whole thing slightly clearer: i got randomly infected with a virus, probably a worm or some shit. it's a really creepy one i can't figure out, because not only has it apparently monitored and taken shit from my computer to its ~creator (thus the hacked email account), but it is simultaneously pretending to be a virus scan program and trying to get me to click all kinds of buttons that would allow it to start deleting files off my computer, AND it is blocking my access to my computer's safe mode AND my virus scanner. this shit is insane, i do not even know how to deal with it. i can only be grateful that the only thing they got possession of at all was my email account.

i also don't have money to actually get anything fixed, but thank GOD my parents are willing to loan me some. <3 i just hope all my stuff can be backed up because i have so much stuff on my computer that i haven't saved anywhere else, and i would be seriously, seriously upset if i lost it.

so um, that's all for now. ~special thanks to my housemate jonathan whose laptop i am using right now, and remember to take care on the internet, kids!

over and out. lol

OMG, I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN FOREVER. It's been almost exactly a month, damn.

It has been a pretty interesting month at that; our warm water in Leiden suddenly stopped working and stayed that way for a week, the landlady came to "fix it" and her expertise resulted in no warm water AGAIN a few days later, lasting for yet another week and a half or so, halfway through which our heating ALSO stopped working.

No hot water and no heating in a house full of cracks in the walls, in the winter? Yeah, it was fun! The plumber came today though and god bless him, because he fixed everything and now the house is warm again! No longer will I have to retreat to my parents' house just so I can take a shower.

I also bought a ton of books and some clothes, after a short period of being too poor to buy myself anything but food. It was also to cheer myself up again, because a_suitcase MOVED OUT. :'( She only moved literally around the corner, but I miss her nonetheless.

Aside from the absence of Renée herself, all the pretty posters around the house were hers, as well as most of the DVD collection, the DVD player, half the kitchenware and the living room table, so the house is very empty and depressing at the moment.

In more positive news, I SAW EDDIE IZZARD OMFG, I love him and the show was amazing. I would include one of the videos of it I found on youtube but they are long and not very good quality, so... no.

Other actual fun things I did included hitting up the the Amsterdam documentary festival with electricwitch to see Videocracy, a creepy documentary about the hot mess that is Italian television. Afterwards I went to the Amsterdam Hermitage again and finally saw the rest of the exhibit, which I LOVED. Personal belongings of the Romanovs? YES PLEASE. I also went to a Picasso/Cézanne/Mondrian exhibit with my family on my nan's birthday, yay.

Have a trailer of Videocracy because it was really interesting, if very creepy and in parts problematic in and of itself (the film goes on and on about gender inequality in Italian tv and how women are barely allowed to speak, but... no women are interviewed?) Still, it's worth checking out for sure.

BTW, it's... really not safe for work.

<lj-embed id="27" />

Interesting factoid: the trailer was banned from Italian TV. Surprise surprise.

Finally, I think I will post pictures of all the pretty things I've bought recently, because... idk I hadn't gotten any nice things for myself for a while so new things are now VERY EXCITING to me. Shut up.

BOOOOOKS

(the title means Marc Chagall and the Jewish Theatre)

This one ^ was actually a gift from my nan. Oh my god I DIED, it's so stunning <3

CLOTHES:

I'd been eyeing all of these for months haha, yay for sales!

POSTERS:

I also bought Ballets Russes on DVD (yayay I love that film so much) and a cute little plant for in my room. I have three now and am already at a loss as to where to put them, BUT I STILL WANT MORE. I love plants, idk.

Sooo that's all for now I guess. If I can manage to unlazy myself this month there will probably be a lot of posts full of pretty pictures and/or videos I didn't take, because I'm in a spammy kind of mood.

All that tl;dr having been said... HOW ARE YOU GUYS? <3 I have been a terrible LJ friend recently and I'm sorry! I do still care and try to keep updated, but I've been falling behind lately.

I should have shared this right before Halloween but my memory is on temporary leave, so I forgot. Still, I need to show y'all this so I will, whatever.

It's a vlog from my housemate Jonathan, who... basically got lost at night in the CREEPIEST MUSEUM EXHIBIT IN THE WORLD, where he was all alone.

Seriously, you will want to see this. It involves innovative and creepy taxidermy artefacts and actual for real brain music. As in music made by a human brain. Which is no longer attached to a human. And all of this was caught on film.

<lj-embed id="26" />

Also the talky bits were recorded in my room!
So I hope everyone who celebrates Halloween had a good one! And please admire my beautiful Halloween icon for a little because I will have to delete it after today. Tragedy!

It's not really celebrated over here, but I did have a good day. I went to a free screening of The Fall at the train station (yes really haha) with a_suitcase - that wasn't very Halloweeny obviously, but when I got home I FINALLY got around to seeing American Psycho, which was a little more like it!

All in all I've seen a lot of films this week - I went to see My Winnipeg in Amsterdam with my dad on Tuesday, which was preceded by a surprise showing of the short film The Heart Of The World WHICH I LOVED SO MUCH, OMFG. It is up on youtube so I can share its amazingness with you:

<lj-embed id="25" />

AMAZING, RIGHT? RIGHT.

Then on Wednesday I saw This Is It with my mum (I loved it and I'll be going again soon, not gonna lie), and on Thursday I saw Julie & Julia AND Bright Star. My wallet does not particularly like me just now, but it was fun!

I loved Julie & Julia mostly for the gorgeousness of the scenes set in 1950s Paris and a variety of beautiful French houses and kitchens, and Bright Star was just gorgeous all around - there are some screencaps here which frankly don't even do it justice, but I'm just trying to get you guys to see it haha so anything helps I suppose. They left out this cap which I LOVE:

Soooo yes, go see it!

When dad and I were in Amsterdam on Monday, we also went to the Van Gogh Museum, to see the exhibition about his letters. He was a prolific letter-writer, and a lot of the letters he sent and received have been preserved. A lot of them contained little sketches of paintings he was working on as well, and were shown next to the same, finished paintings. It was a great exhibition but it made me a bit sad because I'm a sap, I guess. It just makes me sad to read his letters where he talks about what he wants to achieve with his art, and how one must always try to keep seeing the beauty in things, but to know that he ended up feeling like such an all around failure and so plagued by his psychiatric problems that he took his own life a few years later, after all. idk, boo, it sucks. He deserved better.

Aside from my sad life story-related emo, it was really exciting and interesting to read van Gogh's letters. He quoted a lot of poetry and literature, and even aside from that they were very interesting to read. A complete annotated collection of them has actually just been published, but it costs €400, ffffuuuuuuuuck the world. I want it bad, but yeah, never gonna happen.

And lastly for now... Nanowrimo has started?! And I still don't know whether or not I want to try and participate this year, haha. I don't have a plot so it would end up being a hot mess anyway, but last year was so much fun that I kind of want to. idk idk idk. Anyone got any plot ideas lying around? haha.

DAMN, LONG POST. I'm done.

And suddenly outta nowhere, it's a HARRY POTTER STAN POST. Yesss bitches.

I don't talk about it much on the internets, don't think I ever really did, but I am a HP stan to a potentially embarrassing degree. I don't dress up and I only went to a midnight book release for the last book, but I stan for this shit all the same. I LOVE it.

And now I have found some awesome Potter related stuff around the internets, so I'm going to post it all here because it deserves sharing.

First off, designer M.S. Corley made some amazing amazing covers for all the HP books, in the style of 1960s Penguin crime books. I THINK MY EXCITEMENT ABOUT THIS IS PROBABLY AUDIBLE OVER THE INTERNETS.

This is them (btw, clicking on one of the smaller images will take you to the original HQ image):

Sadly they probably will never be used officially, and because of copyright issues he can't sell any prints of these covers, either.
It bugs me that I haven't allowed myself to be creative since I was a kid. It's this insecurity thing, I think - I don't want to make anything that might not be good, so I don't make anything at all. I don't know. It's stupid, because now I get these periods where I feel enormously inspired by pretty much everything and I'm aching to just do something with all the beauty I see, make something out of it, but I don't know how and I don't know where to start so again, I don't.

This happens every few months or so and it's happening again now, so because I don't know how to do anything, don't know what else to do, I just start looking for pretty things aimlessly. Photographs, art, books, music, clothes, posters... whatever. Preferably things I can buy, because then at least I'll have something to show for this stupid mania. I don't know, it's weird. Kind of embarrassing to be so out of touch with things I love that the only way for me to feel okay is to buy them. Eh, I don't know. It's a good thing I'm broke, I guess, that way at least I can't buy too many things I have no use for.

I did buy this:

New winter coat! Totally permitted, because I have been wearing the same one for six years now and I was so sick of it, it was driving me nuts. The fake fur collar comes off and has a regular white collar underneath. I spent a month mooning over this coat, saving up until I had the money to get it. Now it's mine!

Bobby poster! I love this image and I love him and it was cheap. Yes!

I was happy with the way my room looked for a while but now I'm not anymore - it's too empty. I'm probably going to be buying more prints and posters over the next few months to fill out my remaining wall space a little more. I still need a bookcase, but I think that will have to wait until I get some birthday money in December.

In more real life news: tomorrow I'm seeing North By Northwest in the theatre with my dad! It's always exciting when old films are shown in the cinema so I'm looking forward to it.

Then Tuesday I'm going to my nan's to hang out and watch more Bollywood films, including Paheli which I can honestly recommend to everyone, even though Shah Rukh Khan sports a terrifying moustache all throughout it. I love this film and Shah Rukh's part in it so much that even despite the olde timey stache and the turbans the size of baby elephants, I would STILL HIT IT. And that's saying something because men I love suddenly sporting unflattering moustaches usually make me despair. And all that is not to mention Rani, who is pretty as ever and who seems to have a thing for films about ladies doing what they want even when it's not generally considered the traditional thing to do. I love her for that. Anyway, yes, Paheli is great and one day I might picspam it, I dunno.

For starters though have the end credits, which involve an awesome song and dance sequence in which all the main characters are string puppets! I love this particularly because the film is a fairy tale from ~olden times~, so the puppet idea feels extra appropriate, besides being hella cute.

<lj-embed id="22" />

And while I'm at it have my jam for the day, because... anything to make this post less uninteresting, lol.

<lj-embed id="23" />

Okay, end of disjointed entry!

There's a Russian Heritage exhibit there right now which I've heard is really gorgeous so I'm excited! lol I love spending time with my family idgaf. <3

So guess who just signed up for a film history course to mitigate the awfulness of a completely Law-filled semester, even though the classes are way earlier in the morning than she can technically handle and she's already pretty busy and oh hey it starts tomorrow?

Damn right. Oops, I guess?

It was necessary, though, since I don't know whether I'll be let back into English, plus my law classes this semester all look to be spectacularly boring. Blargh.

Also tomorrow I have to go see a psychiatrist (it sounds so srs D:) to get my ADD ~diagnosis, so, um. I don't think 'yay' is a fitting way to end that sentence, but idk what else to say, because frankly a diagnosis would be a good thing to have at this point in time.

I... feel like I should say more but frankly I have NO IDEA WHAT.
THE GUY I WENT TO SEE ABOUT MY SECOND MAJOR WAS REALLY NICE. This was a relief because for some reason I always expect that anyone whose job it is to help me with personal things is going to be some hardass stonewalling motherfucker who's all "BITCH DON'T EVEN" the second I walk through the door. Seriously, I expect that shit EVERY TIME even though they're all nice to me.

He told me that I'll be kicked out of my second major either way and there's nothing I can do to stop the decision from being made, but I do have grounds enough to try and fight the decision once it's been made, like an appeal kind of thing, so I'll be trying that when they boot me and keeping my fingers crossed. If that fails I can still follow classes but I won't be able to get my English BA or anything, so I'm way less cool with that option. We'll see, though.

OKAY TL;DR OVER. Have an outfit picture because I said I would start doing these.

Haha god I look like my brain up and flew out of the room. Idk how to pose right though, so it's probably gonna look awk for a while. Maybe I'll just do one outfit post every week or something and cut it? idk idk. At least I got the ball rolling now. Now I can't back down on my internet decision~

Ugh, this week. I DO NOT LIKE THIS WEEK. There's good stuff happening besides the bad, but my mood's been down the drain for days so whatever, I still hate this week.

Good news first so I can remind myself:

I PASSED MY CIVIL LAW EXAM

which means

LAW SCHOOL ISN'T KICKING ME OUT

which... I don't think I mentioned on here, but they were going to kick me out if I didn't pass civil law. WHICH I DID, so hell yes. Oh this also means that I've passed my first year and electricwitch and I are now ~*classmates*~ lol. THIS SHOULD BE FUN.

Also good news is that I BOUGHT THIS BOOK AND IT IS AMAZING:

I don't think you can tell very well from this picture but this book is fucking MONSTROUSLY HUGE. It is also full of beautiful posters and nerdy background history about them and about early cinemas and film promotion and fnfa'sdgjhjsdk this is the kind of book that gives me nerdgasmic pleasure. Also the original price was €75 BUT I GOT IT NEW FOR €25. Fuck yeaaaaah. I am pleased.

On the downside though I'm probably being kicked out of the English faculty for failing at life and my classes (err for all you new frands: I am (soon to be 'was' lol D:) doing a full-time law BA and a full-time English BA.) Ngl it's pretty much my fault since I let my crazy ass sleeping problems and ADD get the better of me and never actually reported that I was having issues on time, so it looks really sketchy to come knocking with all this shit now that I've actually failed enough classes to be kicked out. IT STILL FUCKING SUCKS THOUGH, I really loved English. I guess this is what I get for being all "NO FUCK HELP I CAN FIX THIS MYSELF" lmao because I can't.

I talked to the English students advisor this morning and she basically said "sorry but you're fucked," though she did tell me to try pleading my case with one other person who miiiiight be able to keep me in (but probably not). I had to get up early this morning to go see her even though my sleeping has fucked up majorly again, and she already told me I'm fucked, so tbh the part where I burst into tears (and hopefully gain some sympathy) in that other person's office will probably come easy. fuuuu. I'm already embarrassed and it hasn't even happened yet.

Aaaand then there's the two months plus homicide thing which I don't think needs explanation as to why it's depressing.

The weather is nice though and at least I'm still a student SOMEWHERE? lol.

The weather is really amazing, which is doubly convenient at the moment because my parents' house HAS A GARDEN. I love our house in Leiden, but it is sorely lacking in the garden department.

PARADISE.

I took a walk with my dad in the morning (predictably we spent half of the time we were out in a bookstore, lmao) and had a really great lunch in the garden, and I've just been chillin' out here since. IT IS SO GREAT, I'm finally getting into the proper summer spirit now that my exam is over and I don't have to worry about studying anymore.

MY LUNCH INCLUDED A FRUIT TART, DID YOURS? (I hope it did!)

lol I love how my dad spoils me when I come home. ♥ When he knows that I'm coming to visit there's usually a slice of cake or something waiting for me when I arrive, and he'll buy all kinds of amazing stuff like fancy cheese and sliced mortadella and raisin and nut bread from the organic store nearby, and then be like "oh they're yours, don't forget to take them back with you!" And he's always so happy to see me again, it makes me want to visit every other day, lol. Basically I love visiting home! It's a shame my mum isn't here now, but she is chillin with her buddhists so at least she's having a good time too.

I'll be visiting my aunt's later and having dinner with her so all in all today is an A+ summery family day. I APPROVE OF TODAY SO HARD.

Also also random topic change, my dad just showed me this video:

<lj-embed id="17" />

and not only do I LOVE IT FOREVER, I also love how there's a chorus of screaming girls in the background! If it had been the Beatles or whatever there would have been a million close-ups of the screaming crazy girls in the video, but apparently when girls screamed for a girl band the camera people were all "... let's just pretend this never happened. Zoom in on the tame fans, ZOOM IN ON THE TAME FANS!" lmao.

Okay I think that will be all from me for today, lol. I just wanted to be all YAY on the internet for a minute because I've been kind of peeved over having to stay home all summer and now I am no longer peeved! I thought that was worth documenting, haha.

Today is weird! I don't know what to make of it. I feel like I'm having a good day when I shouldn't be?

I took what must have been the most stressful (and important) exam resit of my life on about one hour of sleep at 9 am (which ain't such a hot time for me and my lifelong disordered sleeping), and I have noooo idea whether I passed or failed. I was kinda switching back and forth between being focused and ~in the zone~ and completely out of it, sooo idk. I WANT TO KNOW MY RESULTS AND YET I DON'T, so as a compromise I'm going to hope they take the full three weeks to give us our grades back.

On the bright side though the weather was really really wonderful, so I walked most of the way back home. I've been told the weather has been great for a week now, but I wouldn't know lmao. I decided that I deserved comfort food (and I FUCKING DID, omg. Never have I revised as much in one day as I did yesterday. Ten weeks worth of civil law in one day. TEN.), which in a shocking turn of events I COULD ACTUALLY AFFORD. I get my first cheque of the month around the 18th and usually end up with like €10 left to last me at least the entire week before that if not longer, but now I have money left over?! This is literally the first time, lmao. So I stopped off at the supermarket and treated myself to grapes and fresh orange juice and pecan honey pastries. Fuck yes.

AND THEN I CAME HOME AND SWITCHED ON THE TV AND SETTLED DOWN WITH MY AMAZING AS HELL FOOD AND THRILLER STARTED ON MTV RIGHT THEN. lol that made up for a lot, not even gonna lie. It still takes me by surprise every time I see Michael on tv because I'd expected like one day of tributes and then nothing, but they're still playing his videos pretty regularly over here and it makes me

This was like an hour ago, and now half of me is like FUCK YES FREEDOM LET ME GO DO SOMETHING FUN OUTSIDE and the other half of me is like SLEEP. SLEEP AND NEVER WAKE UP. so idk. I'm probably gonna go with sleep, lmao.

Hopefully I'll be awake enough by tomorrow to go visit my dad, because my brother is away on introduction camp with the student society he joined (my bb brother is a UNIVERSITY STUDENT this is making me feel old) and my mum is away doing buddhist things for a week, so my dad is all alonely aw. Also this is the longest I've gone without seeing him since I moved out - not okay! My mum came to visit me last week and my brother crashed at my place a few times during his uni introduction week, so it's really just my dad being ~left out~.

SO APPARENTLY WHEN I DON'T SLEEP ENOUGH I START TO TL;DR ABOUT REAL LIFE STUFF? GOOD TO KNOW!

brb sleeping forever

I've done two recently just because I liked new stuff that I got, but if I do them more regularly I feel like I should ask y'all for input: should I post them here at all or will it annoy you guys? Should I put them behind a cut for people who don't give a shit? idk what to do!
So I fiinnaaalllyyy have my Modcloth stuff. Not even gonna lie, I was on edge waiting for it the whole month and a half it took for it to arrive (I was really nervous about the shoes haha, I have really weird feet/ankles so I'm always like GET HERE GOT DAMN I DON'T NEED ALL THIS TIME TO GET MY HOPES UP WHEN YOU MIGHT NOT EVEN FIT ME >:O ), and then it arrived and I STILL couldn't have it because the import taxes were twice what I'd expected so I didn't have enough cash to pay on the spot, which meant waiting until today to be able to pick up the package at the post office where it was dropped off after the failed delivery. My hatred for the Dutch postal system will never die.

At least I got my stuff now though! The sandals, though... idk, man. I have really high insteps (is that the word?) and my calves are pretty big - it's not even like I have cankles, it's just that both my ankles and the rest of my calves are bigger than other people's apparently, because I have a really hard time finding boots and ankle strap/mary jane shoes that will actually close the way they're supposed to. These sandals do fit but they're kinda tight, which is making me wonder whether they're making my feet/ankles look fat and deformed, lmao.
OMG YESSS, I FINALLY FOUND A TORRENT OF QUI ÊTES-VOUS, POLLY MAGGOO? THAT WAS ACTUALLY BEING SEEDED. I SHOULD BE STUDYING TODAY BUT I AM GOING TO BE WATCHING THIS FIERCE SHIT INSTEAD, IDGAF

HELL YES. Ilu William Klein. Now all I need is to find In & Out of Fashion somewhere, but lol. Not happening.

tbh I'm doing really good at procrastinating, but I really wish I had a laptop. I've had this beautiful scenario in my head all day, in which I sit in my bed with a million pillows around me, a huge glass of orange juice, a plate of cookies, and the balcony door wide open, and spend aaaall damn day watching pre-code comedies and Lubitsch silents and Buster Keaton shorts. It is the greatest scenario in the whirl and I need it to happen. Dumping some pillows on my sofa and watching my computer screen from there just ain't the same :'(

Also I HATE THAT I'M STILL NOT GETTING COMMENT NOTIFICATIONS PROPERLY. Every so often I'll get a lone email promptly after someone replies to me so I'm all "oh hey it's been fixed," but then I find out that I'm getting more replies that STILL aren't being emailed to me. GET ON THE BALL ALREADY LJ GOT DAMN IT'S BEEN TWO DAYS. I want my comment notifications >:O

Also also lol, I finally changed my 2 year old userinfo. I suck at talking about myself so bad though, I just put a video as placeholder until I figure out wtf I can say about myself that doesn't make me sound like a twat. THIS IS ACTUALLY SURPRISINGLY DIFFICULT.

The video, by the way, is this:

<lj-embed id="13" />

ILU STEPHEN FRY.

So Renée's and my Modcloth order from like five years ago finally got here! I knew we were going to have to pay import costs because that's what happens when you get a suspiciously large package from outside of the EU, but so far every time that's happened, both to me and other people (even for pretty valuable packages), the costs have been €27. (lol though, remember that time when they had just started charging for non-EU packages and not actually told anybody about it and I had to pay €27 to receive a pair of shoes that hadn't even cost me €20? Yeaaaah.)

For this package? I gotta shell out 55 FUCKING EUROS WTF. I'll be getting half of that back from Renée thank GOD, but seriously? Seriously? That's like half the value of the ENTIRE ORDER in taxes, and it was a big order. This shit ain't right and it ain't proper.

Conclusion: FUCK YOU DUTCH POSTAL SYSTEM. FUCK YOU HARD.

brb withdrawing my life savings*~

To make this post less boring, have some Marc Johns:

Truth.

FRESHLY SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE IS THE MOST DELICIOUS THING IN THE UNIVERSE AS WE KNOW IT.

I just wanted to share that important piece of factual information with y'all.

Also I think the stuffy heat around these parts is getting to me - I've made like a million Karl Lagerfeld macros (no really) for a Karl fanboy friend to ~motivate~ him to study, and I put them in a folder called iKarly. I don't even. SOMEONE TAKE ME AWAY FROM THIS GROSS SWELTERING PLACE SO PERHAPS I CAN FIND MY BRAIN AGAINNN

Also my MJ-is-a-GQ-motherfucker post is going to be ENORMOUS, just so you guys know. I can't decide between all his awesome outfits, THERE WERE SO MANY D:

And lastly, for your consideration: yesterday, my housemate attempted murder on me by going "imagine if Stephen Fry just went 'SHAMOOONE!' one day. Everybody in the world would die of lol." I BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE. But I want it to happen!

IMAGINE.

brb sweltering some more, damn weather.
Omg, you guys. You guys. Omg. I HAVE THE BEST HOUSEMATE IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WHIRL.

She'd told me she planned to go shopping today, and I told her I'd come with but I overslept like crazy, so by the time I got downstairs she had already gone downtown. I was secretly kind of relieved because I always fail at stopping myself from buying clothes when I really need my money for food, and I've already spent all of my non-grocery money for this month (a month starts on the 17th for me money-wise though, so it's not ENTIRELY as bad as it sounds :x).

And then Renée got back home, and she was all "Oh I saw something at H&M that I thought you'd really like, but then I remembered that you're broke so I bought it for you!" So I thought "omg I'm getting a necklace or something :O" or, you know, something similar from the 'oh I'll just buy this small cute thing for someone on a whim' price category.

BUT IT WAS A SKIRT.

A GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS SKIRT. THAT MY HOUSEMATE BOUGHT ME. BECAUSE SHE IS THE BEST HOUSEMATE EVER.

IT IS SO QT I LOVE IT. AND HER. AND IT.

(Plz excuse my haggard face and hair though! I'd feel weird cropping my face out of photos so I don't, but today was a hot mess couch potato pyjama day and it kinda shows D:)

rofl this is like the fifth time that I've posted something along the lines of OMG RENÉE SWEETEST EVER, I guess that proves my point!
